Flair FC and Bullets FC Reignite the Musani & Mandela Memorial Match

Memorial Day

Football brought Flair FC and Bullets FC together on Saturday, but the occasion was about much more than the result.

At IPRC Kicukiro, two Kigali football teams came together to honour the memory of two players who remain an important part of their shared history, Musani and Mandela.

Both players had represented Flair FC and Bullets FC during their football careers before their untimely passing several years ago. In their memory, the two teams traditionally met every year in March for a special memorial match.

After a break of several years, that tradition has now returned

Bringing Back an Important Tradition

The idea of reviving the memorial match came through a conversation between Flair FC coach Nicholas and his counterpart at Bullets FC.

Recognising that the match represented more than just another fixture on the football calendar, the two coaches agreed that it was time to bring the tradition back.

And so, on Saturday, Flair FC travelled to the home ground of Bullets FC at IPRC Kicukiro for the return of the Musani & Mandela Memorial Match.

It was a match played in memory, friendship and respect, while, as always, the competitive spirit of football remained firmly intact.

Bullets Take the Win

On the pitch, it was Bullets FC who came out on top, securing a 5–1 victory on their home ground.

While the scoreline belonged to Bullets, the result was ultimately secondary to the reason everyone had gathered.

The match provided an opportunity for players from both sides, many of whom knew the story of Musani and Mandela, and some of whom knew them personally, to come together and remember two people who had been part of both football families.

For Flair FC, the day was a reminder that football is not only about winning and losing. It is also about the relationships built through the game, the people who leave a lasting mark, and the traditions that keep their memories alive.

After the match, players and officials from both teams gathered for a reception and shared refreshments together.

The atmosphere provided an opportunity for everyone to step away from the competitiveness of the match and reflect on the significance of the occasion.

Both teams’ captains and presidents also addressed those present, with each speaker emphasising the importance of keeping the memorial match alive.

Their message was clear: this is a tradition worth preserving.

The memorial match is not simply about remembering two former players. It is also about maintaining the friendship and connection between Flair FC and Bullets FC, a relationship built through football and strengthened by shared memories.

A Tradition Returns

The agreement reached on Saturday is that the Musani & Mandela Memorial Match will return again in March 2027, restoring the event to its traditional place on the football calendar.

For Flair FC, this is something to look forward to.

Football clubs grow and change. Players come and go, coaches change, and generations of players take over from those who came before them. But some traditions are bigger than any individual team.

The memorial match is one of those traditions.

By continuing to play it, Flair FC and Bullets FC ensure that the names of Musani and Mandela remain part of the football community they loved and represented.

More Than a Match

Saturday’s 5–1 scoreline will eventually become just another result in the history of Flair FC and Bullets FC.

What should remain, however, is the meaning behind the fixture.

  • Two clubs.
  • Two former teammates.
  • One shared memory.
  • And a tradition that has now been brought back to life.

Flair FC would like to thank Bullets FC for hosting the memorial match and for helping revive this important tradition.

We look forward to meeting again in March 2027, not simply to compete, but to remember, celebrate and keep the memory of Musani and Mandela alive.

Until next March.
